I recently upgraded my phone/plan after many years and got a free 100 SMS pack (supposedly, we'll see after the 2nd bill) with my plan and noticed that only outgoing SMS was being counted. I've never used SMS much before so didn't know if this was normal or not. Is incoming SMS free?
Thanks.

both count against your SMS package.
they charge IN and Out SMS.

That's weird. I've received probably two dozen or so SMS so far but when I check my account via the website, it's been listing "2" for the entire bill cycle since I generally only receive SMS and don't send them.
Does it matter if they are sending it to you via another phone, the SMS email address for your phone, or via PCS mail notification?

Mhusband does not have a text message package, so he gets charged on a per-message basis. So we decided to test that theory.
He gets quite a few imcoming messages, but hardly ever sends any.
On our last bill he was charged for 23 text messages...he only sent 3.
So yes, you get charged for both...

Starting July 1st everyone will be charged for most. Incoming messages from Sprint phones were previously free I guess in some markets because like you my incoming text did not count against me.

What if you receive a text message but don't want to read it (so that you don't get charged)? Will Sprint still charge you if somebody sent you a text message without your consent? With phone calls, you can just not answer a call and you will be fine. What about SMS?

Interesting. Thanks for the notice on the pending change. Where did you hear about this?
I got 3 more incoming SMS's yesterday and my website count still reads "2", as it has for the past week. It would have been nice to keep getting free incoming SMS but I'm not a heavy SMS user so the free 100-pack should be sufficient.

I get a text message whenever I get an email to my sprint email address (I have my regular email forwarded there just so I can get this notification). When I signed up for this new package and my new sprint email address a couple of months ago (I've been a sprint customer since 1999 but just recently started using the email), the rep told me that there was no charge for the text message from sprint-in-the-sky to my phone.
I just got off the phone with a rep who told me that yes, there would be a charge for those text messages if I didn't have the $15.00 PCS and Picture Mail package.
Who do you believe. It seems that every time I call, I get a rep who gives me a different story.
Does anyone here know if text messages from sprint to your phone are charged?
I get a whole lot more than 100 of these messages per month.
I may call back tomorrow and see if I get the same answer. :-\

This means even messages from Sprint to me (notifying me of email) will cost me if I go over my 100 free per month?
How much per message?

Not sure in that case, each additional text message is .10 though.

I think there charging you now, not July 1st, i don't have a plan and dont really worry about it to much if i have to send few being at .10 then i just do. maybe 1 or 2 dollars extra for TM.

Ok, July is here. Did some tests and here's what I found:
Charged:
phone to phone (incoming/outgoing)
website to phone (from Sprint.com)
Not charged:
PCS Mail alerts (i.e. notification that you have emails at username@messaging.sprintpcs.com)
SMS email address (i.e. emails to 1234567890@messaging.sprintpcs.com)
