About 2 weeks ago, I was sitting at my computer with my 650 and my cordless house phone next to me. I picked up the house phone and it slipped through my fingers ( I blame inconsistant sleep from having a 5 month old) and dropped right on the screen of the 650 and cracked it. With no insurance and no warranty (anymore) I started looking into repair/replace options. Of course, if I wanted to spend the big bucks, I could get the 700p, but that would not have been fiscally responsible. A new 650 would be at least $350, a used one was averaging $250 and the cheapest repair service was $99 for a new screen installed by the service provider (An extra $50 if I replaced the old, scratched up shell as well). My brother-in-law, who works for Sprint, said "before you do anything, go to the store and tell them what happened and see if they can do anything for you". I did, and the rep said, it will be $55 to replace the screen (since the Nextel merger, they now do phone repairs in store) and it will be done in an hour and a half. I was quite relieved. When he finally came out, he had a new phone for me and said "I like to see the looks on peoples faces." It's now under warranty again and insurance.
Not sure exactly why this worked out in my favor, but I tend to ask fewer questions under these circumstances. But, YAY Sprint!
