Wow it seems like everybody has been focusing on the Katana they forgot about the higher end phones! Well the Sanyo MM-8400 is comming out in the next few months and I just got some good info on the MM-8400 first let me tell you the official news and 2nd I well tell you the speculations

Official specs(Confirmed)
-will have removable faceplates like 8300
-will come in colorways of Black/Blue/White
-will have bluetooth
-will have camera and camcorder
-screen resolution and size will be larger than 8300
-Will Have Mp3

Speculations(Not confirmed)

-2.0 Mega Pixel
-tranferable data thru Bluetooth
-optical zoom
-external VGA display
-4.5 hour battery life
-Mini SD card slot
-30MB internal memory

All this news was forwarded to me from my technician at the sprint store were I work, when I saw it I was boosted!! I was on vacation from May 25th till today when I check my email I saw it!!!!! I seen some liable info and some pics but he told me not to share any to anyone. I do want my job!! So as soon as I get the go ahead to post them I will!! I should take a pic with my phone then post em' but........ then it might look blurry! Plus thats taking a risk. But here is what I can say The design is similiar to 3100 and looks pretty similiar to 8300 but you can clearly tell its a different sanyo I like it!!!!!! Its a notch bigger than 8300 also and the screen is larger. I know how you guys feel about pics cause I would be the same way, plus it was an art sketch layout not actual live pics. Thats probley why he dosnt want me to send the pics to anyone cause you know how sanyo likes to change things, but who knows! So if I can get a chance to post them I will. Well if anyone has any info on the 8400 post it here or pics this is the first thread to get going so let the speculation BEGIN!!!!

So I suppose the talk that the 8400 was the high end slim phone was bogus. Just another high end Power Ranger Sanyo. Hope an EVDO Katana isn't far behind the 6600.

I'd say no. Not until we get some more solid specs than that. Your 9000 is a great phone for now, and from what I've heard it'll be 4th quarter before the 8400 comes out anyway (oct-dec). By then you may even have a rebate available.

Thats how sanyo operates. plus!!! I been hearing a July late august release!! I mean common its already in the sprint system RMS(any employee can check that) so it will be release in the next 3 months mark my words!

Americans are slow to adapt to technology. Eager, but slow. I know some people my age who don't know how to use a computer properly to save their life.

:needpict: , thats my input :)

Jonathanlc2005
06-08-2006, 10:53 PM
ok this is my input on this VGA screen. im not saying that it wont happen but honestly i dont believe in anyway possible it will have that screen. the 9000 has a QVGA screen and if anythign, the 8400 will have a qvga. its a middle type phone, not a high end phone. if it was VGA, it would be a 9100 because its high end phone. but for example, the evo X vs. the eclipse ralliart. the eclipse ralliart wil have AWD but for a performance car, 400 horsepower should be in the evo, not the eclipse. or else its competeing againts itself. so if you looking for VGA, look in the 9100 not in the 8400. but i know sprint would be the first since there the first in everything

and besides, QVGA was just introduced

Marlon_JB2
06-08-2006, 11:07 PM
QVGA resolution was just introduced........ here around the year of 2003 (I *think*). It's most certainly nothing new to the entire cell phone world. :D

nancito

i agree, more phones will likely need to be qvga before the quantum leap is made to vga phones or else consumers (besides phone freaks like us) won't know that there is a difference.

ok, so there has been a good amount of buzz about the upcoming 9100, is this going to be the same as the fabled 5700, or is that a different phone altogether? if it is seperate is the 9100 a higher end phone than the 5700? and is there any kind of speculation about the 7600? specs, looks anything?

The OP of this thread is dreaming. VGA external display? Riiiight.

The 8400 is essentially a Readylink version of the samsung a920, but with the same tired design.

In working for RadioShack, I did get to see the Powerpoints a while back, the same powerpoints, likely, that showed the Katana. The so-called "known" specs are essentially correct, but not quite, based purely on memory though. Let us remember how sanyo is...They could always change their mind as they have already. I'll explain.

This Powerpoint presentation several months ago was given by Sanyo Representatives at a sprint meeting for RadioShack Managers and their Assistants, as well as some other select employees. Being an Assistant, I was there for it, when they showed, I think it was four phones. Everyone knows about the Katana, so we won't go there. One was the 8400, which I'll get to. The other two were the 2400, and an upgraded scp-200 I believe. That one I dont think I payed too much attention to.

What they told us was their biggest thing, being a japanese company, is color choices. They love that over there, thats why the 8300 was such a success, and they plan to keep it that way. They are also known for their big, awesome speakerphones, and generally for readi-link. That was the coolest part of the Katana I remember, the fact that it was slim and a walky-talky.

However, seeing that the 2400 was released, I am somewhat disapointed, because the Rep told us that their next line was supposed to be all internal antennas. The pictures I saw at the meeting were indeed internal, yet, seeing it now that its released, we can clearly see they changed their mind on that feature. Maybe they had performance problems, who knows, but thats the case regardless.

That brings us to the 8400. In short, the presentation said that it would indeed be everything the 8300 is, plus bluetooth. New colors, faceplates, same great speaker and Voice recorder, etc. It didn't look any bigger or smaller however, so I'm not sure where that info is coming from. They did NOT however, mention an Mp3 player, or expandable memory. Again, they could change their mind at any time, but this seems faily solid. It would be nice if they followed through with the internal antennas, but, we'll see, I suppose.

More than likely, we wont see the Mp3 on the 8400. maybe on the next in the 9000 series, that seems more likely. Logic would tell us that as long as they have the series system that they have, there has to be something that the step up has to sell it. The car analogy earlier by jonathanlc2005 was well put.

Buy one phone that is just a phone. Upgrade, and get an external lcd and readilink. upgrade further to get the camera, camcorder, bluetooth and the like. thats the 8400. Upgrade to the 9100 is it? and get the removeable card slot, and likely a bigger screen. Then jump into the new market and throw in a slightly lower end version of the 8000 series, and make it slim. Interesting choice, we'll have to see how that plays out. Thats all I know, after babbling on for who knows how long now. I hope people have the patience to read all of this, but it will prove interesting over the next few months, I assure you.

 Nice post! Thanks!

It seems to me that things are following a pretty logical order as far as release times and all for the Sanyo phones. It wouldn't necessarily be a good business move for Sanyo to release all their new phones at once (as bad as we would all like for them to!).

That said, since I am in dire need of a new phone (been with the 4050 for 2.5 years!) I am surprised that Sanyo currently has no high-end feature-rich phone available on the shelves at my local Sprint store. I have always liked Sanyos (my first two phones were Sanyos and my wife has used them since we signed on with Sprint over seven years ago).

At this point, it's obvious that Samsung and LG are taking all of the market share for the high-end phones on Sprint. This in turn seems like not such a great business decision. It's one thing to discontinue the 9000, but I'm not sure why they would do that without having a fairly immediate replacement for it. I mean, aren't we probably looking at a solid 8-12 months between the time that the 9000 was officially discontinued and when we will see a successor? That's 8-12 months of people who are in the market for a high-end phone (like me!) will purchase another manufacturer's product. Is the 9000 a fair competitor to the Fusic and/or the 920? Maybe, maybe not but it would at least be a choice.

Anyway, just my $.02. I'm really looking forward to the 8400 and beyond from Sanyo. Hopefully my 4050 will last that long - it has well over 63,000 minutes on its life timer!

Sanyo MM-8400 is coming out in the next few months [/SIZE]

Official specs(Confirmed)
-will have removable faceplates like 8300 NOT QUITE
-will come in colorways of Black/Blue/White CORRECT
-will have bluetooth CORRECT
-will have camera and camcorder CORRECT
-screen resolution and size will be larger than 8300 CORRECT
-Will Have Mp3 CORRECT

Speculations(Not confirmed)

-2.0 Mega Pixel NOPE
-tranferable data thru Bluetooth SORT OF
-optical zoom NOPE
-external VGA display NOPE
-4.5 hour battery life NOT QUITE
-Mini SD card slot CLOSE; MicroSD
-30MB internal memory CLOSE ENOUGH

The camera will be 1.3 megapixels with a flash and NOT 2.0MP. There will be NO optical zoom.

The currently planned bluetooth profiles are headset, handsfree, car-kit, DUN and object push. Though those could change between now and launch. This is the same for the "Katana."

The main display is a QVGA 2.0" TFT beauty. The sub display is a 1.0" 65k TFT 96x64.

The rated battery life for the standard battery will be 3.5-4 hours of talktime.

This is an EV-DO Power Vision device and as such is digital dual-band (no AMPS).

This phone has an EXTERNAL antenna.

This phone will be ReadyLink(TM)-enabled. It will never communicate with the Nextel DirectConnect platform/phones, nor any next-generation walkie-talkie services that be forthcoming.

The faceplates click on the front of the phone almost like a cover, but you are not taking anything off the phone to put one on. They are called "FaceMasks."

It will support MP3's just like the 9000 and 5600 do. Load them on the memory card and play them through the phones media player (browser). There will not be external controls. It also will not have the FM transmitter nor A2DP like the Fusic.

The phone is essentially the same size and shape as the Sanyo 3100.

Expect launch to be mid-to-late September. Pricing details are still TBD.

Seems like the Fusic is the only game in town. The 8400 specs don't sound as impressive as the currently available Fusic. Why bother to wait? My hangup with the Fusic is that I don't get much of a corporate discount on it. If the price drops I'll get one.

Well, my 9k won't be worried until this 9100 arrives. The 8400 does seem to be a nice phone, and sounds like a good choice for people who could never get their hands on a 9k, or people who simply want a upgrade. But if you already have the 9k, I don't see this really being worth the switch, imo. But I can't wait to get pics/specs on whatever the 9k's successor is, no doubt about that.

Im Confused. This Is The 8400 We Are Talking About Right? Theyre Not Going Backwards. What Size Screen Does The 8300 Have?

james2K
06-20-2006, 11:23 AM
ehh, IMO a 2.0" QVGA will look great on an MM-8400, the follow-up to the MM-8300.

this is an 8XXX series, evolutionary not revolutionary.

Even the 9000 has a 2.1" QVGA, who's going to notice the .1 of an inch really, esp those of us with 9K's who "can't go back"

This 8400 is getting me excited for whatever sanyo brings for the replacement of the 9000, because traditionally the 8XXX series gets last years 5XXX series features. Then they come with something new and better in the 5XXX (or 9XXX now) to make the 8XXX series look old.

Yeah, my bad, I didn't know the 8300 screen was smaller, so good, they have increased the size then, I keep forgetting about following the series of phones. Hopefully the 9k's successor will do the same, although the only clam shell that I can think of that's bigger than 2.1 so far is the 4050 or the blade, which I think is 2.2, but I'm probably wrong on this to eh? If they ever release a flip with a hi rez 2.4 I'll shut up for ever about screens, I promise.

That's what I'm thinking. People just can't open their mouths. The Cell Phone Industry is like Apple. As Tight lipped as theoretically possible!

The processor industry is completely the opposite. They have roadmaps that show future products in the pipeline for years! I wish the cell phone industry was like that. The problem is... nobody would ever buy!

Just further confirmation that the 8400 should have bluetooth - it's listed under compatible bluetooth devices for the Dock-n-Talk from Phonelabs.

meeting mode to me is 3 way calling. but seriously im threatened by my 9000.

james2K
06-28-2006, 11:22 PM
isn't sanyo meeting mode called 'answer on hold' now? That's where the phone answers the call and tells the caller to hold and their call will be answered correct? I think they only called that meeting mode on the 7400. I'm pretty sure every sanyo has that feature now, even the lowly 2300 or 3100.

Tip: on a 9K or 5600, hold the side camera key while incoming call is ringing to activate this.

To the person talking about microSD card not making sense it makes perfect sense. The 8000 series phone are always small. Why put a miniSD card on the phone when you can save space with a microSD card? I am hoping I can get a confirmation on wether the phone has an expandable card slot because some of the other specs i can already confirm myself. That will probably be my deciding factor.

No question about that. On the other hand, businesses and many people plan their purchases ahead of time based on what is available. If Sprint knows what features the new phone will have, it should forecast a date and make it known, so it is considered.

Sprint isnt stupid if they gave customers a forecast of things to be considered then they will lose money on the customers that are not signing up because they are "waiting". there will aways be people waiting. it's not good business for them. here's an example: EVDO rev A is launching late next month. if a small business knew this information they will naturally wait before they order 100 connection cards. Now in turn Sprint does know that some know and are not wanting to lose sales because of that. So Sprint is heavily pushing sales of connection cards NOW with a promise of the customer being able to upgrade to rev a at no cost when it is launched.

it'll make their quarterly report look alot better than if if they told what the specifics were and customers wanted to wait the following quarter
