Just got a VI 2300 as a replacement for my old Noikia-whaterver-it-was.
This has much more bells and whistles than I'll ever need, so I've already canceled the unlimited SMS messaging (at $15/month!), and I'm not sure what I'll ever use the Vision plan for (yet another $15/month). So my question is:
Do you have to have Vision to add any ringtones to this phone, or only the ones I download from Sprint? Can you even add non-Sprint ringtones (like, if I made one myself, could I upload it to the phone? If so, can you point me to a tutorial?)
Thanks for putting up with me :)

If You Dont Have A Vision Plan, Then You Will Be Charged Per Kb That You Download But Yeah You Can Make Your Own Qcp Ring Tones

OK, this may sound odd, but how in the world can they tell if I upload a ringtone to my phone? If I have the needed data cable, and I go straight from my computer to the phone, how do they track that? I'm assuming that Vision has some sort of program that facilitates downloads from Sprint, do you have to use that program even to upload non-Sprint things?

Vision is their marketing name for the 3g data services that the phone is capable of. You can use the phone's web brower and download ringers/screensavers, etc over the air via vision with or without a vision plan. You will be charged I think 1 cent per KB if you do this without a plan.
As to uploading things via cable, that is a seperate process that Sprint does not track. I have not done this, but I beleive there are programs such as BITPIM that allow you to upload files via USB. Someone else would have to chime in on that.

yeah they will charge/track you for downloading the ringers that you create or send to your phone through the internet without a vision plan.
they dont charge you if you use a usb data cable from your PC.
you can use the program called Bitpim like randall stated above to send midi ringers and images to your vi-2300
as far as i know you still cant send "qcp" ringers through bitpim to a sanyo 2300
i have the cable and used it a lot until i got a vision access pack added for $10 per month. i mostly use it for reading the news and accessing email but it comes in handy when i make a ringer and want to upload it to my phone :)
anyway cheers!
