Eh?
How would an LCD be affected by a magnet, exactly?

They are not affected, only crt displays, which rely on internal magnets, can be affected / damaged by other magnets

CRTs can be destroyed by magnets while off, just as much as they can when they're on.
Try it, let us know what you find. :heresyour

I had just bought a case for my 700p as well and I didn't even think about the magnetic closure harming my screen until after I purchased it. Now I'm kind of afaid to use it. Any further info on this?

I've used magnetic cases (pouches) for a really long time now.. And as far as I can remember, then only phone I ever had a messed up display on (dead pixels, and more, and more, and then some more) was on the A840.. Hard to say that was the cause, but considering my partner had the same phone with me, and would sometimes use the case, was slowly getting dead pixels.
I have the 700P now, and have had the A900 and A920 (used pouches on them too) with no problems.

So as long as the back of the phone is on the Magnetic side of the case, the Screen wont suffer any harm?

I don't think the magnet messes up the screen. . . or at least not with the 6700. If it did why would UTStar give you a magnetic case to start off with. In the end, you know someone in this day in age will sue them with a class action lawsuit because they intentionally are messing up their own product. Like stated before, magnets really only effect older crt monitors, most lcd screens are not affected.
And it states no where in the manual that the device needs to be flipped around before put in the case. So if the screen were damaged because of the magnet on the case that "they provided," then you would not have a hard time getting it replaced by the company for their mistake. No one, as of yet, has reported a problem with magnetic cases damaging 6700's, 700p's, and I really haven't seen reports for 650's either.

Nobody is trying to prove you wrong. Just stating my comments just like you did.
Just wouldn't make sense for the company to give you a magnetic case to mess up your device. My screen turns on by itself in the case all the time with the magnet by the lcd and I have yet to have a problem with it. Maybe it's just your phone that has that problem.
Like I said earlier, if the magnet really does effect the screen, then UTStar is really making a financial mistake by providing purchasees' of it's device with a magnetic case. Within a few months, someone will bring about a class action lawsuit or UTStar will put out a recall to replace the cases with another type of case.
And r0fl, if these situations happened to your brother and friends, they should have contacted UTStar directly to let them know about this. Or if not UTStar, at least contact higher up individuals at Sprint, not just techs and reps on the phone. That way the the process for a possible massive recall could be started. UTStar needs to look into this and see if the magnets really will cause damage to the touch screens. But who knows, maybe they already did (which is probably the case) and they did not find a negative outcome.
