4G in Knoxville, Tennessee

By: Juan February 23rd, 2011

We received a tip from an SU member telling us that he is:

…seeing 4G WiMax in Knoxville, TN for the past few days. Looks like sprint is ramping up service here.

Anyone out there in Knoxville who can verify this?

Probably because of the famous World’s Fair Park Sprint acknowledges the importance of coverage in Knoxville.

I live in Silver Spring, MD, where we have 4G service. However I have noticed both here and in other cities, that the 4G reception is often impaired when inside. Given that much of the activity needing 4G is done inside, I wonder whether Sprint is aware of this, and is there anything that can be done about it? Outside my house I have 2 “bars” of 4G – inside I can’t get 4G at all.

I’m interested in the HTC Evo, but once on the Sprint Website, I was told it wasn’t yet available where I live (Clinton, TN) just outside of Knoxville.

Hmm… I’m in the Turkey Creek area and I’m not able to pick up a signal / network with my Evo. Has anyone heard anything official yet? The ‘Free Internet’ at Borders is slower than dialup and I’m ready for a 4G tether!

I was in knoxville by burlington coat factory and got signal 4g ran a speed test and was hitting 7mbps I hope it reaches oakridge it would deffinatly boost sales here people work for the department of defence at the national lab and I am pretty sure would dump verizon for the actual 4g service hint hint

Not in Farragut. Lucky to get 2 bars on 3G. And the are heading east? Go figure. Cricket land. A friend has gotten a signal at 640 and Clinton Hwy. Another Radio Shack employee at Turkey Creek said it was up for testing.

So where did it go? Love paying a surcharge for something I can’t get. Hope someone figures out how to boost the signal so we can use it indoors.

If you want a booster look to wilsons cradles. They will boost 3g idk about 4g. The kit will set you back about 200 bucks but will make your signal shoot up.

Well, I would like to think that we have this so called 4g coverage here in Knoxville, TN.,But you and I both know that it is not “TRUE” we have no such thing. I think that “Sprint” misrepresented itself when the HTC EVO 4G came out they were charging the extra fee,in places where there was not even a hint of 4G coverage coming and there reasoning at the time was that if you were to travel where they did have the 4G coverage you would have to pay for that avalibility. “Now their pitch on this is all different, and they claim its been this way all along, which simply is not true.” It was not presented that way when this phone first came out. Now 2 yrs later with no hint of it coming anytime soon here in KNOXVILLE, TN., they cannot tell you a actual date when it will be here, leads me to think that it is not even in the process. They cannot even tell you what sub-contractor is doing the upgrade’s to the towers to make it avalible. I just won’t a honest answer.
