The lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Francisco, says that a poorly-designed data backup system caused consumers to lose important data, stating that “many webOS device users suffered and continue to have major issues with permanent data loss, including but not limited to the loss of instant messages, emails, calendar entries, contacts and applications paid for and downloaded from the Palm App Catalog.”

This massive disclosure of sensitive customer information was made possible due to the roll-out by Sprint of a new, special web portal for law enforcement officers.
